About Me

The Beginnings of Scholes Photography

cali second shooting for her mentor, abi teeters at a wedding

I was introduced to photography in my sophomore year of high school. I had joined the yearbook, where I had a teacher named, Mr. Ligocki. He was a photographer for the Green Bay Packers before he came to my high school, and so he made sure we had the best equipment and really taught us to do photography. I learned that I had a passion for capturing moments that you might not remember without the photo. When I came to Stout, I met Abi Teeters from Abi Jane Photography in September of 2020, when I first came to UW-Stout. She also went to the same high school as me, but graduated when I was a Freshman. I mentored with her and learned about my passion for capturing weddings and just love.

Since then, I have been an assistant to several photographers, especially Abi and second shooting weddings. I am working on getting the equipment necessary to be able to book and capture my own weddings! I have also booked quite a few couple shoots and I just love being able to meet new people and capture each couple's unique love and relationship.

Learning to Work with my Brain

I have had mental health struggles my entire life. I deal with anxiety, depression, and ADHD. This combination can lead to a nice little cocktail of severe lack of motivation and drive to even get out of bed in the morning. I started taking antidepressants/anxiety medication in the summer of 2021. This has been a journey of learning the correct type of medication, what dosage works, and what side effects that I can deal with. This has been a long journey, but worth it, as I have been the happiest that I think I have in my entire life.

I have also learned in my time that my brain doesn't work like those of my peers around me. I have to keep very meticulous lists to remember everything that I need to do, I need reminders on my phone, and rigorous systems to keep myself in line. I have been really taking the time to learn what my brain needs to be productive and it has been incredibly helpful in my schooling journey, school has never come easy to me, but my University journey has pushed me to find systems that work with my brain, not against it
